It’s funny how things change.

Remember back in 2000 when Bill Clinton was coming out of office and the election was hot and heavy between Al Gore and George W. Bush? The Republicans were running on a ticket that screamed about how terrible things had gotten because the President had gotten a blow job in the White House. Bush was going to “change the partisan tone” of Washington as “a uniter, not a divider”. In fact, here’s a little chunk of Dick Cheney’s speech at the Republican convention in Philadelphia back in the summer of 2000.

“On the first hour of the first day, he will restore decency and integrity to the oval office. They will offer more lectures and legalisms and carefully worded denials. (crowd boos extensively) We offer another way and a better way and a stiff dose of truth.”

Hmm. Seems like Rumsfeld, Cheney, DeLay, Frist, Libby, Rove, and Bush must have missed that little nugget of wisdom. Seems like when he said “They” he was talking about his own party.
