WE’RE GETTING OLDER
A month ago, I was in Chicago to see Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon, and The Bennevento/Russo Duo. I was a great show, the 4 of them have a great chemistry together. It really was the closest thing to the vibe we used to get at early Phish shows. The thing that really struck me at this show was how so many of us have gotten older. Some of us are still hanging on for dear life, some of have accepted what has happened, some have newly discovered what the rest of us had known for a long time, and some just can’t let go.
I think what really sums up the whole experience was some tall, lanky guy who was a few seats over from us. We ended up camping out in the front row of the bleachers instead of going into the big general admission sea of humanity on the floor. This guy was there noodle dancing up a storm, looking 100% the part of grown-up hippie. The thing that was slightly out of place was that dancing and spinning next to him… was his 4 year old son. Complete with his own tie-dyed shirt.
Surreal.
