WE’RE GETTING OLDER

A month ago, I was in Chicago to see Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon, and The Bennevento/Russo Duo. I was a great show, the 4 of them have a great chemistry together. It really was the closest thing to the vibe we used to get at early Phish shows. The thing that really struck me at this show was how so many of us have gotten older. Some of us are still hanging on for dear life, some of have accepted what has happened, some have newly discovered what the rest of us had known for a long time, and some just can’t let go.

I think what really sums up the whole experience was some tall, lanky guy who was a few seats over from us. We ended up camping out in the front row of the bleachers instead of going into the big general admission sea of humanity on the floor. This guy was there noodle dancing up a storm, looking 100% the part of grown-up hippie. The thing that was slightly out of place was that dancing and spinning next to him… was his 4 year old son. Complete with his own tie-dyed shirt.

Surreal.

Filed under: life — Shaftwaxer @ 3:24 PM

I clicked on the wrong thing in my instant messanger client and ended up bringing up a conversation I had with somebody exactly 2 years ago. I think it nicely outlines how far things have come over the last 2 years for me personally. Suffice it to say, this is my ex, not the woman I’m engaged to. What the fuck was I thinking?

S: fucking a
T: what?
S: haven’t talked with the girlfriend for most of the week
S: she’s been leaving me alone so i can get shit done
S: so i thought i would be nice and drop by tonight, i had some time
S: she wasn’t there, i leave a note
S: she calls back and is shitty
S: i don’t need that shit
T: biatch…lay the smack down
S: there are only a few people who really get what’s going on right now
S: keeping all you [clients] happy is fucking hard
T: was she shitty because she missed you, or shitty because you are working?
S: she doesn’t understand how i don’t have any time to see her
S: disappointed that she wasn’t there, shitty that i’m working
T: i see
S: and she starts almost grilling me on my daily schedule
S: no i wont go to church with you
T: haha
S: i mean fuck. i get up, i work
S: that’s all my life is right now
S: lay fucking off

Fun fact about this girl. Aside from calling my mother for 3 or so months after we broke up, she ended up meeting some guy on a group date mid-February. By the end of March, they were engaged. By mid July, knowing each other for 5 months, they were married. But it’s alright, she prayed on it. Honestly, I hope she’s happy and that this isn’t a giant fucking mistake in her life. Then again, she can do whatever the fuck she wants, I’m not part of her life anymore.

Thankfully.

I definitely traded up. WAY up.
