WHY WOMEN SHOULD BE PROPERTY OF THEIR MAN

Filed under: politics — Shaftwaxer @ 6:28 PM

Seems like a silly premise, yet I think that’s kind of what Judge Sam Alito was getting at when he was a judge on the lower courts.

The case in question deals with abortion. His statement was essentially that a woman should be required to tell her husband if she was getting an abortion, regardless if there was a situation where she was going to be the victim of domestic abuse. First off, I am in no way advocating cheating and infidelity. Having been cheated on myself, it crushed me. In a perfect world, you are not with somebody who will do that to you. But in case you are, wouldn’t it be nice to be protected?

His statements were that the woman should tell the man. So if she is fooling around and gets pregnant or raped, she absolutely must tell the husband regardless. Of course she shouldn’t be fooling around, but the effect that this would have on the family is pretty severe. One might even argue that the woman isn’t fit to be a parent if she’s the kind of woman to be cheating on her husband. Still, she would have to tell the husband.

Turn the situation around. Let’s say the husband is cheating and gets another woman pregnant. Does he have to tell his wife the other woman is getting an abortion because of his actions? No. That lack of equality concerns me about his nomination.

Because when you boil it down, his views are one step away from saying that the wife is the property of the man.
